Congrats on a well deserved shout out in CM...which made me realise my subscription must have ended since I didn't have a copy in my mailbox at work.(Must go see the librarian about that!) Thank you for bringing up the new format of said zine. I find it visually hard to read at times...disjointed fonts and colors distract me. I thought good layout was all about being clear concise and focusing the veiwer. Notice I said "viewer" and not "reader" since I can't become the "reader" until I can focus on where to read. I've noticed this change in other publications and have wondered if it is a design based on the 12 second attention span of todays youth- everything must be broken up into tiny interesting tidbits, and certainly it must be edgy and entertaining. I don't believe the clientele of CM are that specific market. While I'm all for staying in the present, looking to the future of things, I don't believe good design and layout should be sacrificed. The same may be said for the written reviews. Having access to the writing of budding reviewers...at times the future looks dismal. As you said, that doesn't excuse the editor whose job is to know better. I miss the techie side of CM, but I've found that Pottery Making Illustrated is awesomely heavy (editor, you can cut that.) in that department. Should CM leave that up to another publication? Not sure.
I'll be forwarding your etsy sale to my valentine....

Hi Christy and sorry for not responding sooner...thank you for your insightful comment regarding my rather disappointing return to reading CM. I will only add...I agree to everything you said.

...And I have resolved to return to my old, old ways when checking out Ceramics Monthly...just look at the pictures.
